Farzad is Professor of Digital Engineering at the School of Computing, Engineering, and Digital Technologies, Teesside University, UK. He is also the leader of the Centre for Sustainable Engineering, Open Research and Output Quality Lead at SCEDT, Teesside University, and the Lead of Construction Innovation & Research (CCIR). He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Smart and Sustainable Built Environment (SCI/JCR IF = 3.6, CiteScore Tracker: 8.5) and as an Associate Editor of Automation in Construction (SCI/JCR IF = 10.3, CiteScore: 16.7).

Farzad has an extensive research track record, with over 200 quality publications and more than 3,400 citations. His research spans various aspects of Construction 4.0, including Digital Twins, Smart Contracts, Building Information Management/Modeling (BIM), Distributed Ledger Technology, Big Data, AI/Machine Learning, Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), Smart Homes, IoT, Cybernetics, the use of Smart Agents within the built environment, Virtual Prototyping, and the application of VR/AR/MR interfaces for building simulation, automation, and design integration. His work also encompasses Offsite Construction, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies, and the development of innovative business models for integrated construction.

Farzad has successfully led several high-profile research projects, including funding from H2021, InnovateUK, the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), European Regional Development Funds (ERDF), Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC), Scottish Funding Council (SFC), Data Lab, and Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC). He has secured over £2.5 million in research and innovation funding. His expertise is recognized by esteemed organizations such as the International Council for Building (CIB) and building SMART International.

Farzad has supervised 10 PhD students in the fields mentioned above, with many achieving prominent roles. Some have become senior academics at prestigious institutions like the University of Cambridge, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Salford, while others hold leadership positions in industry.
